Summer to-do list update | Week 5 Update (July 16)

Here’s my update as of Thursday July 16.


Lose at least 10 lbs. My real goal is 18 but at the very least I want to fit into a particular suit and dress, and I know 2 lbs a week every week is not going to happen.

NOPE NOPE NOPE | nothing new to report other than I wonder whether being sleep deprived makes a difference. I’m sure Will Carrier can tell me. Will?

List and sell all of the wedding silver on eBay.

NOT YET | now that the clothes are dealt with I will move on to the silver.

Stop staying up too late during the week.

GETTING THERE… | the one night this past week when I was in bed by 11, I ended up chatting on the phone with my friend Katharine until midnight. And I had a party last night and didn’t go to sleep until 2am.

Start doing yoga again at home, at least once a week.

FAILNot. at. all.

Go to the gym three times a week.

KINDA SORTA | another tennis lesson and a bike ride. Does it count that I brought my gym clothes to work?

Settle on the dates for vacations with certain family friends.

HALF DONE! | no update since last week…

Buy a bike and ride it with Liam on weekends.

DONE!!| bought a beautiful red bike. Rode that bike on the weekend and will do so again this weekend. Next week when I have Liam I hope to take him out during the week as well.

Have less owing on my line of credit.

ON TRACK  | not looking good… My big tax refund will help but a chunk will get used up by the bike, tennis racket and lessons, fixing my car dent… Still, no complaints.

Book the meeting with the financial planner.

ON TRACK | no update from last week.

Sell the pile of Liam’s clothes that have been sitting in my office for months.

DONE!! 

Book (and do!) the boudoir photo shoot I just bought on Groupon. Yes, again…I let the last one expire.

DONE – WAITING | I booked it for August 22nd. Gah!

Update: I plan to do another shoot with the FetLife photographer but we haven’t been able to find a date that works yet. I’m okay with that!

Finalize my updated will and powers of attorney.

DONE – WAITING | First draft reviewed and corrections made. Getting close to being 100% done.

  1. Ann, it is simple math. One needs to burn more calories than are being taken in. Ok, it is a LITTLE bit more complicated (and simplified) than that. It is a matter of getting your metabolic rate running faster so that even on rest days, your body is burning faster rather than storing. You also have to properly fuel your body so that it is more likely to perform as you increase intensity and frequency of your workout schedule. One can lose weight through deprivation, but the body puts up a fight to maintain and will lower the metabolic rate to accommodate reduction of intake.

      • I don’t have a lot to offer, here because I don’t sleep much. But it is essential to sleep in order to reset and build new muscle tissue. When sleepiing following a day of working out, more muscle restoration takes place than any other period of the day. More muscle = higher metabolism.

  2. Red is my favorite color. I will have to see if my sister still has my bike. The fat on my thighs is crying right now from the swimming, which is an exercise I really enjoy. It works as a bonus because Owen loves the pool!

    • Red is mine, too! My first bike, a brand new 1969 Schwinn Stingray was red. My first road bike in 1980 was a Schwinn Le Tour III that was also red. My first real road race bike was a 1985 red Specialized Allez SE and my current machine is also red. I did break the flow and bought a blue/silver/black mountain bike. Oh, my ’67 Mustang is red. 😉

    • Oh…my dear friend, you don’t know fat on thighs until you deal with what my hideous body carried. I do get what you are saying…but I messed myself up with what I allowed to accumulate over the years. For 5+ years, it has been gone and I feel amazing. However, there are reminders of what I did to myself that leave me feeling pretty bad about my appearance.

      • I’m really working on getting slimmer and toned, it is going well! I’m glad you’ve been able to keep the weight off this long, and I know you’re more critical of yourself than anyone else would be.

        • Just keep working at it, Hollie! Get that red bike out and ride…get your heart rate elevated and make your body drip with sweat. I lost all of my weight on my bicycles. I keep it off in the same way.

          Yes..I *might* be a shade more critical of me than others…but I think that I can justify it. No one sees me, here so yo have to take my word for it. 😁

      • Mr Fox lost a significant amount of weight (100 lbs) a couple of years ago and I’m pretty sure you can give me insight into the time it takes to work through that mentally so how you feel about yourself matches how others see you.
